Baku hosts a conference on the rehabilitation of oil-contaminated sites

Baku. Elnur Huseynguluyev - APA-Economics. The Ecology Department of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) hosted a conference entitled â€œThe Rehabilitation of Oil-Contaminated Lands - Proposed Methodsâ€.
Mukhtar Babayev, SOCAR Vice-President for Environmental Issues, said briefed the participants about the companyâ€™s environmental policy.
â€œFor one and a half years, SOCAR has been cleaning up oil-polluted lands. I think that our experience in this field is not much, so we are interested in the proposals suggested by state agencies and NGOs,â€ he added.
Babayev added that the composition of pollution in different territories is different:
â€œIt is practically impossible to clear all polluted areas by a single method. There is a need for monitoring. The most contaminated areas on Apsheron Peninsula are the sites of Binagadi, Balakhani, Taghiyev and Emirov Oil and Gas production Units,â€ he noted
Azer Aliyev, Head of the SOCAR Ecology Department, spoke about the environmental projects and technologies to clean up the oil-polluted lands.
