Hajigabul. Alibay Zeynalov-APA. Hajigabul lake is about to dry out. Local ecologists told APAâ€™s Mil-Mughan bureau that Hajigabul lake, which covers over 8 sq km territory, may dry out. The ecologists, who monitored the lake on July 29, consider that before the lake was filled with water only when the Kura river overflowed. During the Soviet period water was pumped into the lake artificially, but later these activities were stopped. Hot weather also accelerated evaporation of the water in the lake. As a result of it 80 percent of the lake has dried out. The lake has become a source of natural disaster and epidemy, microflora and microfauna of the lake died. There are no more flamingos in Hajigabul lake. Shirvan department of ecology and natural resources #3 refused to comment on the problem.
