Antique and early medieval historical monuments found out in Azerbaijanâ€™s Yardimli region

Yardimli. Ageddin Babayev-APA. Antique and early medieval historical monuments have been found in Yardimli region. APAâ€™s south bureau reports that dwelling places, castles, tombstones, sacred places and sepulchers dating back to the early middle ages were found as a result of the scientific research carried out by the specialists of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in Alar, Avarog, Ojagkend, Yolajag, Aruz and Ostayir villages of the region. Two different kinds of graves were found out in the dwelling places during the investigations. Scientist of Archeology and Ethnography Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Mirnagi Nazarli said that these are stone graves and jug graves. Stone graves were mainly found in Peshteser and Bozayran villages of the region. Department chief of Archeology and Ethnography Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Arif Mammadov said that 5ha ancient dwelling place was found in Yolajag village. Jugs, basins and other home appliances were found out during archeological excavations here, which prove that people lived in this territory till Arabic invasion. Tombstones found out in the medieval cemetery in Yolajag are in the form of a sheepâ€™s head. It dates back to the reign of Garagoyunlus. As sheep-breeding played an important role in the above-mentioned state, the tombstones were made in this form. Graves of warriors with tracery paintings on them dating back to the 15-16th centuries were also found out during the investigations.
Mammadov said as archeological excavations had not been carried out in the region so far, a number of historical and cultural monuments underwent destruction. Broad archeological excavations will start in Yardimli region after the initial research work is completed. Material-cultural examples will be studied and delivered to the historical museums. Scientific studies will be reflected in the encyclopedia about the history of southern-eastern region and book will be published about the history of Yardimli.
