Baku. Parvin Abbasov – APA. The number of 0-3 year old children born with disabilities increased 37% in Azerbaijan in 2011, said chairman of the Social Committee of the Azerbaijani parliament Hadi Racabli at the meeting of the committee, APA reports. He said that it is a serious indicator.

Chief pediatrician of the republic Nasib Guliyev, who participated in the meeting, said that this number is disturbing. He said that in comparison to other countries the congenital anomaly rate in Azerbaijan is higher.

Member of Committee, deputy Yagub Mahmudov expressed concern over the increase of the number of 0-3 year old children born with disabilities. He said that the law on “Enrichment of foodstuffs” must be adopted in Azerbaijan: “Local laws, and amendments are not sufficient. Genetically modified products are brought to the country,” he said.

Mahmudov criticized the presentation of some foodstuffs on TV channels as “the food preventing cancer”: “Certain persons support sellers of such products.”

Deputy chairman of the Social Committee Musa Guliyev didn’t agree to the views of Mahmudov and said that it is not necessary to adopt law on “Enrichment of foodstuffs”. These words of Guliyev caused serious objection of Mahmudov.
