Deputy Minister: No concessions will be made in stopping import of the medicines lacking package inserts in Azerbaijani

The chiefs of the offices of the pharmaceutical companies in Azerbaijan sent letters explaining why the package inserts are not in Azerbaijani.
“They say Azerbaijan’s market is small. Pharmaceutical market in Azerbaijan is not so big. Package inserts must be put into the medicine packages, where they are produced. This is the main reason. But of course, we must obey the law. Our law requires it,†he said.
Elsevar Agayev said the European countries with population of 2-3 million also demand package inserts in their languages.
“For example, Serbia, Macedonia have achieved this. Azerbaijan will no more make concessions regarding it. The import of the medicines lacking package inserts in Azerbaijani will be stopped from June 1,†he said.
Deputy Minister said 50-60 percent of Azerbaijan’s pharmaceutical market consists of the medicines produced in the developed European countries.
“Very often they do not want to put package inserts in Azerbaijani into the medicine packages,†he said.
Elsevar Agayev also commented on the reconsideration of the registration of the medicines imported from India. He said there are more than 1000 producers in India.
“The majority of them are factories that do not meet modern standards, standards set forth by the World Health Organization. But there are modern pharmaceutical factories in India, which medicines are sold all over the world. 6 percent of the medicines registered in Azerbaijan are produced in India,†he said.
