Initiator of IDEA campaign Leyla Aliyeva presented with Special International Glory Award “For Protection of Environmentâ€

The Olympiad was co-organized by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Education, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, State Oil Company, Cag Ogretim Isletmeleri and Inepo-Eurasia companies, with information support of the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. The Olympiad is aimed at increasing the youth’s awareness of ways of solving the growing environmental problems, forming delicate approach of schoolchildren to environment, inoculating them with the feeling to preserve natural, cultural, historical and social, aesthetic values, involving them in various projects on the solution of environmental problems.
International Environmental Project Olympiad was first held in 2007 with participation of schoolchildren from 17 countries. This year the event brought together 400 students from 42 countries. 130 out of 350 projects introduced from foreign countries, 60 out of 294 projects introduced from Azerbaijan were assessed by the jury. Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia, Georgia, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Vietnam, Yemen, Somalia, Angola, UK, Bulgaria, Zambia, Niger, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Russia, Egypt, Mongolia, Mozambique, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Azerbaijan were represented in the Olympiad this year. Azerbaijan won 4 gold, 12 silver and 17 bronze medals in the Olympiad.
Leyla Aliyeva, vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and initiator of the International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA), was presented with the Special International Glory Award “For Protection of Environment†established on the initiative of the winners of this year’s Olympiad.
