Landslide damages 36 houses in Azerbaijan’s Shamakhi region

Local residents said there were nearly 50 dangerous structures in the village as a result of recent heavy snowfall.

Landslide activation has occurred in the past 3-4 days. The length of sliding area is 8-10 m in some places. 14 houses became completely useless.

The villager Firuding Safarov told APA that the landslide area is expanding day by day. “The land slides almost 1-2 m every night. It keeps the villagers in awe. 14 houses were damaged last month and now the number of such dangerous structures reached 50”.

His townsman Bayram Rasulov also informed about the regular landslides in the territory. “Heavy snowfall made the situation more dangerous this year, extending the landslide area and increasing size of fractures”.

Representative of local authorities Aghamustafa Vahidov told APA that the most active landslide area is in Mughanli village now. “The landslide seriously damaged the houses. The experts visited this village and inspected the damaged houses. The situation is under control and not so dangerous. We don’t consider evacuation of the villagers, but the residents of the dangerous structures will settle in the new houses”.
