Academy’s first vice president Arif Hashimov told APA that they will ask the Cabinet of Ministers to pass appropriate decision.

Director of Shamakhy Observatory Eyyub Guliyev said in the Presidium’s meeting today that switching “winter-summer” time is characteristic for the countries located in several time zones and where minimum daytime is shorter than labor hours. Azerbaijan switches winter and summer times by the Cabinet’s decision from March 17, 1997. Time switching is not topical for the countries close to equator or poles. A number of issues, including energy saving, impact of time switching on working regime, labor productivity and health of people, problem of education and other sectors should be taken into consideration during the switching. Guliyev said it was necessary to research standard time, which has been used in practice since 1930, and underlined the expedience of implementation of winter time (Greenwich + 3 hours). After the discussions, the Academy’s Presidium recommended to discontinue “winter-summer” time switching.
