Representative of Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry: Increased rainfall and snowmelt will activate the landslide zones

He said observations were made in the areas, where the snow melted.

â€œMost of such areas are under snow. Therefore it is impossible to determine the situation there,â€ he said.

Shaig Niftiyev said the second landslide occurred in the areas near Jeyranchol pasture area in Girzan settlement of Tovuz region.

â€œThe first landslide occurred on February 10, the second on February 16.
The landslide damaged the infrastructure. The road leading to the pasture areas is the only road in Tovuz leading to Jeyranchol. The road has been closed. It is impossible to restore it. We have made proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers, a road must be constructed from other direction. Projects are being prepared,â€ he said.

Chief engineer said local landslides were recorded in three places in Astara region. Niftiyev said the landslides along Lerik-Lankaran road activated.

â€œLandslides have activated in three villages of Lerik, our experts are working there,â€ he said.

As the landslide zones in Shamakhy, Ismayilli are under the snow, it is impossible to make observations there. The observations made in Pinevad village of Yardimli two days ago show that new local landslides occurred inside the old landslide area.

â€œThis is connected with snowmelt. As landslides activated in the local areas, it will not damage the houses and communication lines,â€ he said.
