Experts translate documents found in Vatican’s archive

Documents found in Vatican’s archive and brought to Azerbaijan are being translated, Director of Information and Translation Department of the Institute of Manuscripts of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Farid Alakbarli told APA. According to him, they made out a list of documents to be translated. The experts started first to translate the documents in Latin: “These documents belong to XV-XVI centuries, the Sefevis State. The translation will take much time. These documents are ancient and they need very qualitative translation”.

Alakbarli said that, besides, the process of retrieving the Azerbaijani documents is continuing in Vatican’s archives. Vatican’s local experts are carrying out the retrieving process sponsored by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Alakbarli said researches of Azerbaijani documents would continue in Vatican’s archives, but the details on start of researches and periods they will cover are unknown.

The copy of documents on Azerbaijan, which were found in Vatican’s archives, was brought to Baku on December 7. The documents consist of 1000 pages, including the letters of rulers of states of Elkhanides, Atabeys, Aggoyunlu, Garagoyunlu, Sefevis and Gajars to Vatican and the replies to them, the letters from Vatican to the rulers of above-mentioned states and their replies to Vatican, the secret reports of various missionaries on political streams in Azerbaijan and other documents.
