Zaur Aslanov’s brother Rustam Aslanov told APA that his brother phoned home after leaving Azerbaijan after 7-8 months and said he was in Turkey.
“Zaur left home on March 25, 2009. He did not say where he was going to. Several months later we informed the police about it and the police registered him as a missing person. Seven months after he left home my brother phoned and said he was working in Turkey, he told us not to worry. After we knew that he was safe and sound we told the police about it and the search was stopped,” he said.

Rustam Aslanov said Zaur Aslanov is survived by three children.
“Zaur is survived by three children. Once in five or six months he used to call and talk to his children. Last he phoned in December. He said he would earn money and soon return home,” he said.

His family did not know whether he had joined a radical religious grouping or not.
“No one performed namaz in our family. Zaur had started performing namaz 3-4 months before he left home. He did not shave his face. We did not feel him be inclined to religion or any radical sect,” he said.

Rustam Aslanov said they would appeal to the Foreign Ministry to clarify the fate of his brother.
