Working group of Committee Protecting Civil Society holds press conference on amendments made to law on NGOs

The working group of the Committee Protecting Civil Society has held a press conference on amendments and annexes made to the law on “NGOs” in Azerbaijani parliament, APA reports. Members of the working group Gubad Ibadoglu said the final document adopted in the parliament will not restrict the activity of NGOs, but will not favor them either.
“If the law in the first reading had been adopted, dangerous times might have begun for NGOs. But the committee has also finished the second stage of its activity,” he said.
He said that NGOs will act in coordination. Members of the working group Rovshan Agayev, Ilgar Ibrahimoglu, Ilgar Mammadov and others underlined the importance of NGOs’ acting in coordination.

According to the amendments made to the law on “Nongovernmental organizations” in parliament, the items envisaging administrative responsibility for the registration of NGOs, compulsory registration, compulsory registration of NGO members have been removed from the draft, authorized capital concerning funds reduced from AZN 50,000 to AZN 10,000. According to the draft, the foreigners living in Azerbaijan have the right to establish NGO, new norms have been set for establishing branches and representations of NGOs.
