Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. The Republican Hygienic and Epidemiological Center and Caspian Environmental Monitoring Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources conducted monitoring in the Baku and Sumgayit beaches from May 12 to June 18. They examined 153 water samples taken from 53 points and conducted 1032 physic-chemical, chemical and microbiological analyses.

Components examined in the water samples taken from the coastal area of Novkhani-Pirallahi (eastern part of Novkhani gardens, Pirshagi, Nardaran, Bilgah, Buzovna, Mardakan-Shuvalan), where module cleaning vehicles were installed, were identified as normal, but weak pollution was observed in the coastal area of Gurgan and Novkhani gardens caused by the waste waters flown from Gurgan residential area, Sumgayit’s 5th and 6th micro-districts, the settlements of Jorat and Saray, as well as villa quarters of Novkhani.

The quality indications of the beaches were also identified during the monitoring. As a result of microbiological analysis 273 000 bacillus coli was identified per litre of water taken in the area of Sumgayit’s 5th micro-district. 122 000 p/l bacillus coli were found in the areas of Jorat and vacation center “Diana”. The number of bacillus was found in nearby areas of Jorat, but the number of examined components was normal. The water in the area of Aquapark vacation center in Novkhani was polluted with 15 000 p/l bacillus coli. It was 5 600 p/l on Novkhani beach.

The samples of water taken from Hovsan beach showed normal presence of examined components, but 56 000 p/l bacillus pollution.

Some chemical components were above normal on Shikh beach and the bacillus pollution was 45 000 p/l there. Same situation was observed in the area of Sahil beach of Garadag district. There were 160 000 p/l bacillus coli there.

According to the results of monitoring due to the beach season, Sumgayit, Hovsan, Shikh, Sahil beaches and western part of Novkhani beach were identified as the most polluted areas.
