Spokesman for State Veterinary Service Yolchu Khanveli told APA that Azerbaijan does not import animal products from Mexico. Only poultry products had been brought to Azerbaijan from some parts of the US before. Yolchu Khanveli said exportation of poultry products from the US had been banned. State Veterinary Service official said keeping pig-breeding farm was not banned in Azerbaijan. The people engaged in pig-breeding farm have been instructed to keep pigs in closed places and inform the State Veterinary Service in case of any problem.
Yolchu Khanveli said swine flu was more dangerous than bird flu. People can be infected through air, food and contact with pigs.
As regards the quarantine imposed in Nich village of Gebele region in connection with African plague on January 28 last year, Yolchu Khanveli said one-year quarantine imposed on keeping pigs had expired. As from April 1, it is allowed to keep pigs in Nich village in closed conditions. As the virus can live from three up to five years, keeping pigs in open conditions in Nich village will be allowed only after three years.
