Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population offered financial assistance to 500 Chernobyl disabled persons

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population offered financial assistance to 500 people, who were disabled by Chernobyl disaster, APA reports. President of Azerbaijani Union of Chernobyl Disabled Persons Mirhasan Hasanov said 7000 Azerbaijanis were involved to eliminate the consequences of Chernobyl disaster that happened on April 26, 1986. Hasanov said the health problems of those people had been kept secret by 1990. Care for Chernobyl disabled persons began after 1993. The status of Chernobyl disabled persons was determined that year, they were given life-time degree of disability.
“Chernobyl disabled persons are mentioned in every program carried out by the state in social sphere. 48 flats were given to Chernobyl disabled persons last year, several Chernobyl disabled persons will get flats this year. Chernobyl disabled persons have been included into the category of war veterans, who receive president’s individual allowance. Chernobyl disabled persons of the first group get AZN 90, disabled persons of the second group AZN 70 and disabled persons of the third group AZN 50,” he said.
Hasanov said over 2000 Chernobyl disabled persons had recently died in Azerbaijan.

Chief of Social Protection of the Disabled of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population Ibrahim Heydarov said there were 12 social rehabilitation centers for the disabled and 2 rest homes in the country. The State Program for Socio-economic Development of Regions for 2009-2013 envisages improving provision of the disabled persons with flats.
