129 people infected HIV in Azerbaijan this year

113 of registered 125 Azerbaijani citizens are the men and 12 â€“ the women. A number of Azerbaijani citizens passing to AIDS phase reached 33 in that period and 12 died from AIDS.
This year 81 HIV-infected Azerbaijani citizens caught the virus via injection narcotic use, 21 â€“heterosexual relations, one inborn infected baby. Ways of infection of 22 people are investigated now. 28 of the infected 125 Azerbaijani citizens are living in Baku and Absheron peninsula, 92 â€“ in other 29 administrative territories of the republic. Place of residency of 5 people is not known. 32 Azerbaijani citizens were infected outside the country.

AIDS Prevention Center of Azerbaijan Health Ministry registered 1944 HIV-infected people in the country since 1987, when first case was identified, until now. 1869 of them are the Azerbaijani citizens and 75 â€“ foreigners. 1371 of HIV-infected Azerbaijani citizens are the men and 293 â€“ the women. A number of Azerbaijani citizens passing to AIDS phase reached 382 in that period and 251 died from AIDS.
The HIV-infection cases have been identified in 670 families in Azerbaijan since 1992, when the first HIV-infection among the Azerbaijani citizens was identified. All members of 16 families and 135 couples were infected. In 477 families only men and in 42 families only women were infected.
