Opinion poll results released in Azerbaijan

Baku. Elnur Mammadli–APA. Plus-R public interview service and Friedrich Ebert Foundation (Germany) announced the results of opinion poll conducted in January, 2009, APA reports. 1000 respondents were interviewed in 15 regions and 12 cities of Azerbaijan. Political scientist Rasim Musabeyov told APA the opinion poll had been conducted in the country since 2002. He said previously the opinion poll was conducted for 4 times a year, but over the recent years they conducted the poll only at the yearend. “They don’t change questions and we are analyzing the changing of people’s attitude to same issues every year”.

The respondents showed the Nagorno Karabakh conflict (67.8%), poverty (31.7%) and corruption (30.9%) as the main three problems of Azerbaijan. 87.2 % of the respondents called Turkey as a friend of Azerbaijan, 15.1% said it was Russia and 12.2% voted for Georgia as a friendly country to Azerbaijan. Three top foe countries to Azerbaijan are Armenia (94.7%), Russia (14.6%) and Iran (10%). 59 % of respondents said socio-political situation in Azerbaijan was peaceful, but 12.9 % considered it strained. 69 % said Azerbaijan is on a right way of development.
