A burial site adjacent to the Khojaly mausoleum has been discovered, APA reports, citing the report of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences on the results of 2025.

It was noted that Shamil Najafov conducted research in the territory of the Khojaly historical and archaeological complex: “As a result of the research conducted this year, a burial site adjacent to the Khojaly mausoleum was discovered in the necropolis area at a depth of 70 cm, with no visible surface features. At the same time, another kurgan dating back to the Bronze Age was discovered in the necropolis.”

In addition, grave monuments with different structures belonging to the Khojaly-Gadabay culture and a complete necropolis where reburials were carried out have been discovered.

It was noted that the “Shamkir” archaeological expedition, led by Najaf Museyibli, conducted research in the Baydar kurgans in 2025: “Although burials of this type have been observed in some necropolises of the Khojaly–Gadabay culture in the Ganja–Gazakh region, archaeological excavations have revealed—for the first time in the Baydar necropolis—a complete burial ground where this burial tradition was practiced.”
