He made the remarks explaining the reason for disallowing Nardaran residents to enter mosques which has triggered uproar among residents.
He noted that only one mosque – Jumuah Mosque – had previously registered but that one too was not reregistered after the amendment to the law in 2009.
“The law requires that a mosque must have a community. If it lacks a community, no official cleric can be appointed for it. A mosque must have a community and get registered, and then the Caucasian Muslims Office appoints for it an akhund or imam of the same relevant denomination,” said the committee chairman.
Gurbanli also added that no one is allowed in Nardaran mosques because of the reason that they are illegal.
“The people of Nardaran should’ve resolved this [problem]. We had told them that there had to be a community,” Gurbanli outlined.
