As you know, the Great Victory holds an important place in Turkish history and is one of the key stages of Türkiye’s War of Independence. Following this victory, the Turkish army advanced as far as Izmir and liberated Türkiye’s territory from enemy occupation, Türkiye’s Consul General in Nakhchivan Asip Kaya said in an interview with journalists, APA reports.

“During Türkiye’s War of Independence, support was received from many countries. However, one of the greatest forms of support was provided by our Azerbaijani brothers. At that time, significant assistance was provided by the Azerbaijani government, particularly in the supply of oil and fuel, as well as in the economic sphere. Therefore, we always express our gratitude to the people of Azerbaijan.

At that time, close relations were established between the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and the Azerbaijani government. Azerbaijan opened an embassy in Ankara. We always remember all this support with a sense of gratitude.”

He noted that Türkiye’s War of Independence also had a significant impact on the national awakening of peoples living under colonial rule. After Türkiye ended this struggle with victory, similar independence movements began in many countries, and peoples gained their freedom. In this regard, August 30 Victory Day is a historic day of great significance not only for the Turkish people but also for many other peoples.

Thanking all the guests who shared this joy with them, the Consul General said: “God willing, we will continue to come together on the occasion of such beautiful and special days. This is my last event in Nakhchivan. I have been serving here for approximately four years. Since the day I arrived, I have worked to further develop Türkiye’s relations with Nakhchivan in all areas. I think we have made significant progress and brought our relations to a good level. God willing, my colleague who takes up this position after me will carry this flag even further. I am from Igdir; I am a person of this region. Serving in Nakhchivan was very special for me, and I have always been proud of it. I will physically leave here, but my heart will always remain here. I will certainly continue to follow Nakhchivan’s development and the events taking place here.”

“As I also noted in my speech, unfortunately, I was unable to witness the opening of the Zangezur Corridor while I was here. But God willing, when that corridor opens, regardless of where I am in the world, I want to come and be among the first to pass through it. I also give you my word on this. God willing, we will witness this historic event together in the near future. Once again, I thank all our brothers in Nakhchivan, as well as the heads and employees of all state institutions and other organizations operating here, for the support they have shown me over these four years,” the Consul General added.
