Month of Muharram begins, Ashura falls on October 24

According to the fatwa given by the CMO Gazi Council, the beginning of the new year– the first of the Month of Muharram by Christian calendar falls on October 15, 2015 and Ashura on the 10th day of the Month of Muharram - on October 24, 2015.

According to the fatwa, Ashura ceremonies should be held in mosques, worship centers, as well as specific areas defined by the relevant executive bodies in accordance with public order. Mass rallies outside places of worship can be held under the permission of relevant government agencies. Sermons will be delivered in honor of Karbala martyrs in mourning ceremonies, people should pay tribute to the martyrs laying down their lives for our homeland. Public order should be honored during mourning ceremonies. Chaining to shed blood is incompatible with Sharia. People shouldn’t injury themselves and others.

“The most appropriate example of lamentation is the blood donation campaign dedicated to the commemoration of the martyrs of Karbala. The blood donation campaign, which is held on the initiative of the Caucasian Muslims Office during days of mourning, is welcomed by our people too. Such an example should be promoted by clerics. We do hope that the believers will continue to practice this humanitarian tradition during the mourning for Imam Hussain (peace be upon him). Our clerics are meant to reveal the realities about the Karbala tragedy and the essence of the Karbala martyrdom and also promote the bravery shown by the martyrs who offered their souls for the integrity of our lands as well as the martyrs of Karabakh and Khojaly. They should pray for our lands to be soon liberated from occupation under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief,” said the fatwa.
