Javahirli said Azerbaijan is in a state of war with Armenia and lease of a mosque belonging to Azerbaijan to another Muslim country is perceived ambiguously as this has either negative or positive sides.
She stressed that Armenia took this step for political purposes. “Armenia is recognized as mono-ethnic country in the world, and this is not welcomed by the international arena. Therefore, it strives to manifest itself as tolerant and multicultural country”, added Javahirli.
The Armenian government on Dec.10 adopted a decision that Blue Mosque and the adjacent areas are the property of Armenia. The mosque is expected to be listed as historical and cultural monuments of Armenia. But subsequently, a contract will be signed with the Iranian embassy, and regarding the latter’s right to use this mosque for 99 years. The mosque will serve as an Iranian cultural center.
