Baku – APA. Radicalism is contrary to the spirit of Islam. Islam is essentially a moderate religion and calls on Muslims to a "middle way". Furthermore, simplifying the problem of the fight against radicalism leads to the emergence of wrong prescriptions. Therefore, public awareness should be strengthened in the fight against religious radicalism,” said Chairman of State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Elshad Iskandarov at the meeting with media representatives regarding the outcomes of his one-year activity, APA reports.
Radical religious groups easily involve persons, who have no notion of religion. “Taking all this into account, the committee has organized special courses to strengthen the religious communities’ activities against radicalism. It is important to struggle against those violating state-religion relations and propagating radical and unhealthy views,” he said.
Elshad Iskandarov also commented on some Azerbaijani citizens’ participation in the civil war in Syria and the video messages posted by them on the internet. “No doubt they are on the wrong track. I condemn their actions. If they want to sacrifice themselves for their religious views, they should think about our major problem Karabakh conflict,” he said.
