Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. “We are on the right track. Simply, there are some difficulties. Freedom of religion and conscience has its boundary. When somebody oversteps this boundary, the others’ rights are violated”, said Chairman of the Caucasian Muslim Board (CMB) Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh at the republic conference on “Freedom of religion and belief: legal, political and social aspects”. He said that Azerbaijan respects all religious beliefs and freedoms, but no one must use religion for political purposes: “The religion-state relations must be regulated in accordance with laws and everyone must comply with it.”
Sheikh-ul-Islam added that it is impossible to determine freedom of religion basing on the approach, rules and environment of a country: “The promotion of same-sex cohabitation by some persons is unacceptable for us, while some consider it necessary. How can we accept these issues? It is restriction of freedom of conscience for us. I always attempted to explain it to the officials of foreign countries and representatives of international organizations during the meetings. Much is being done towards development of religion and awareness-raising in Azerbaijan.”
