The Global Summit of Religious Leaders, themed “World Religions for a Green Planet,” is currently underway in Baku as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The summit continued with a series of panel discussions.
The discussions will focus on various topics, including “Perspectives of religions and beliefs on the climate change crisis and its impact on the planet, life, and living resources,” “The role of the religious and faith organizations in promoting green future, raising awareness, and fighting against climate change,” “Fighting against climate change through interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue,” “Armed conflicts, violence, acts of ecocide and urbicide inflict serious damage on global fight against climate change.”

The Global Summit of Religious Leaders was inaugurated in Baku today, APA reports.
The Summit began with the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade greeted the participants of the Summit, expressed his gratitude to all the guests, spoke about the importance of holding the Global Summit of Religious Leaders in Baku ahead of COP29, and discussed the objectives of the Summit: “Our esteemed leader, President Ilham Aliyev, who is known worldwide for his global ideas promoting human solidarity, has played an undeniable role in making today’s event possible. Today's Summit, held for the first time after the Great Victory in Azerbaijan, which has hosted the Global Summits of Religious Leaders, serves the purpose of moral assessment of the problem of climate change, which worries the world."
Prime Minister Ali Asadov, who participated in the summit, drew attention to the address of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the participants of the Global Summit of Religious Leaders.
At the opening ceremony, religious officials from Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Georgia, Egypt, and other countries spoke and talked about the importance of religious calls in the fight against climate change and environmental problems.
Note that the summit will cover November 5-6.

The Global Summit of Religious Leaders has started in Baku, APA reports.
The summit, held at the "Gulustan" Palace, is attended by around 30 religious leaders of world and traditional religions, as well as prominent leaders of influential religious centers representing 55 countries and 30 international organizations. The participants include Patriarchs, officials from the Vatican and Al-Azhar, and renowned religious and public figures from various continents and confessions.
Having previously hosted the First and Second Global Summit of Religious Leaders, Azerbaijan is now hosting this summit within the framework of COP29, with the aim of making a tangible contribution to addressing a critical issue of global significance — the climate change problem through its spiritual and moral evaluation.
Note that the Global Baku Summit of Religious Leaders, held under the slogan "World Religions for a Green Planet," is organized under the initiative and patronage of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev. The summit's partners include the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Committee on Work with Religious Institutions, the Caucasus Muslims' Board, the International Council of Muslim Elders, and the UN Environment Programme.
The summit will take place on November 5-6. Additionally, the foreign guests are expected to visit the territories liberated from Armenian occupation.
