State Committee: “Fact of religious intolerance has been revealed in the books, which the Jehovah

 The Committee told APA that the ban on bringing religious books to Azerbaijan from abroad, which is the subject of the community’s suit against the committee, has been imposed basing on the legislation.

 

The committee said any legal entity and individual can bring religious books to Azerbaijan within the framework of the legislation. “However, according to the legislation, the Religious studies and examination department of the State Committee must pass judgment on import of these religious books. The committee passes judgment on the books considering in legislation. Fact of religious intolerance has been revealed in the books, which the Jehovah's Witnesses religious community attempted to bring to Azerbaijan, therefore it has not been allowed importing. A judgment has been passed on the books, which have been brought by the community up to now.”

 

Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with Religious Organizations also said no other organization except for Jehovah's Witnesses sued the State Committee.

 

Jehovah's Witnesses religious community has appealed to Baku Administrative-Economical Court No2 to lift ban on bringing religious books from abroad.
