Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. “Where are the borders of the relations between religion and state? It will be the main topic of the discussions during the two-day forum,” said chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Elshad Isgandarov addressing the First International Baku Forum on “State and Religion: Strengthening tolerance in the changing world” held on the initiative of the of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYF-DC) and several international organizations, APA reports.

Isgandarov said that Azerbaijan is an ideal country for holding such a forum: “Azerbaijan has been distinguished by its tolerance for centuries. Azerbaijan is a country of the world-famous personalities such as Nizami Ganjavi, Mahammad Fuzuli and Bakuvi. Azerbaijan has always shown its loyalty to the Islam. Our people preserved their values even in the Soviet times. The Azerbaijani people, who preserved their national-moral values for centuries, also respected the values of others,” he said.

Chairman of the committee said all nations, religious groups, including Armenians were represented in the parliament of Azerbaijan People’s Republic established early in the 20th century.

“At that time a part of our territories was also under the Armenian occupation. The tolerance in Azerbaijan has also beared Armenia’s aggressive policy. But we have never approached this issue from the religious aspect. The religious monuments of the nation, which has committed the occupation, are also being protected in Azerbaijan,” he said.
