Members of the Azerbaijani Hajj Mission have departed for Mecca
On May 18, members of the Azerbaijani Hajj mission traveled to Mecca to carry out preparatory work, Vusal Jahangiri, Head of the Department for Foreign Relations of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) and head of the Hajj electronic system told APA.
“Together with three other members of the Azerbaijani Hajj mission, I have arrived in Mecca to inspect the accommodations for Azerbaijani pilgrims and handle other organizational matters. We are carrying out preparations to receive them,” he said.

As previously reported, the first group of Azerbaijani pilgrims will depart for the Hajj pilgrimage on May 25. Other groups will travel in stages.

What penalties await those who attempt an unauthorized Hajj pilgrimage?
Saudi Arabia has announced strict penalties for those who violate the rules during this year’s Hajj season. According to APA, under the new regulations starting tomorrow and lasting for 44 days, individuals who attempt to enter Mecca or the holy sites without Hajj permission will face severe fines:
A fine of up to 20,000 riyals (approx. $5,300 USD) for unauthorized entry.
Those assisting pilgrims to obtain a Hajj visa illegally may be fined up to 100,000 riyals (approx. $26,000 USD).
In addition, unauthorized foreign pilgrims will be deported and banned from re-entering the country for 10 years.
Vehicles transporting unauthorized visa holders may be seized by court order.
Is it forbidden to take children on the Hajj pilgrimage?
Vusal Jahangiri told APA that there is no official ban on bringing children for Hajj:
“Some Saudi news portals have reported this, but it is most likely aimed at Saudi citizens. Generally, we do not take infants. We allow children over 12 years old. If someone insists, we advise against it, as it can be very difficult for a child. For example, this year, a pilgrim wanted to take their children and asked for our advice — we explained that it would be risky and challenging for the child.”
