Religious confessions in Azerbaijan urge to strengthen struggle against radical and extremist groups

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev–APA. Advisory Council near the Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations held its meeting on Tuesday. The council discussed the extension of religious educative activity, preparations for March 31 – Day of Genocide against Azerbaijanis, April 21 – Holocaust, April 9 – Passover, April 19 – Easter, as well as opening ceremony of the new buildings of Tezepir Mosque and Baku Islamic University and current issues. Members of the Advisory Council said that religious situation in the country was stable and policy of Azerbaijan on the religion gave positive results. Deputies Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Salman Musayev, Sabir Hasanli, bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church in Baku and Caspian Eparchy Alexander Ishein, Chairman of the Baku Community of European Jews Gennady Zelmanovich, Resident of the Roman Catholic Church in Azerbaijan Jan Chapla, representative of the Highland Jews Community in Baku Semyon Shalmayev emphasized the necessity of strengthening of the struggle against the radical and extremist groups.
They noted that there were some forces interested in spread of harmful inclinations, illegal literature and CD in the society. The members of the council made recommendations regarding the discussed issues.
