Chairman of the Committee for Work with Religious Organizations: “Europe can learn much from Azerbaijan about tolerance”

Baku – APA. A round table on “Multiculturalism in the life of society” is being continued within the 2nd Baku International Humanitarian Forum, APA reports. Moderators of the round table are Rachida Dati, the member of the European Parliament and the mayor of the 7th district of Paris, Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, the Director-General of the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs of the Malaysian Foreign Ministry and Kamal Abdullah, the rector of Baku Slavic University.

Director General of ISESCO Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, the President of Hong Kong University of Foreign Studies of South Korea Chul Park and former President of Bulgaria Georgi Pirvanov delivered speeches at the first part of ISESCO program “Inter-religious dialogue problems: values and rights”.

The chairman of the Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan Elshad Isgandarov underlined that there are the Islam and Christian temples in Icharishahar where the event is being held. He stressed that the Maiden Tower, the Symbol of Baku, has a relation with Zoroaster monuments. There are many synagogues in Baku. Stressing that Azerbaijan is a unique state from the point of view of tolerance, E.Isgandarov said that Europe can learn much from Azerbaijan: “There were Zoroastrianism and Christianity in Azerbaijan. Christianity was the first religion in the Caucasus Albania. We should stress that there are Jewish communities living in Azerbaijan”.
