The tender for the construction of a new stadium in Tbilisi, worth 876 million lari (325 million USD), has been terminated, APA's local bureau reports.
The decision was made by the tender commission of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia.
The commission reviewed the proposals submitted to the tender. Two participants - the Azerbaijani-Georgian joint venture "Makro-Inshaatchi" and the Turkish company YDA INŞAAT - were excluded from the tender due to incomplete applications. As a result, the only participant in the tender was the Georgian company "Anagi". The company's proposal significantly exceeded the value of the proposals of the other two participants. The Municipal Development Fund has not been able to determine the winning company at this stage.
The commission considered it necessary to review the customer's requirements and tender documents and decided to cancel the tender procedure.
Note that the new stadium will comply with the requirements of UEFA's IV category for holding football and rugby matches. Georgia's largest stadium is planned to be built on an area of 270,000 square meters near Tbilisi International Airport. The capacity of the fans will be 70,000 people. The winning company will be given 4 years and 3 months to build the multifunctional sports arena. If the winner is announced this year, construction work will be completed in 2029-2030.
Currently, the largest stadium in Georgia is the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi, which has a capacity of about 55,000 spectators.
