The duration of active military service for warrant officers and midshipmen has been increased, APA reports.

This is reflected in the laws approved by President Ilham Aliyev on the approval of the Regulations “On Military Service” and on amendments to the laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Military Duty and Military Service.”

Under the currently effective provisions of the Regulations “On Military Service” and the Law “On Military Duty and Military Service,” specifically Article 12, clause “q,” and Article 38.1.4 respectively, the duration of active military service in peacetime for all warrant officers and midshipmen is set at 5 years.

According to the amendment, taking into account that servicemen who have graduated from special-purpose secondary vocational education institutions training military personnel, as well as from similar foreign secondary vocational education institutions, are specialized professional personnel, and in order to make longer use of their knowledge and skills in the defense of the country, the draft law provides that the duration of active military service in peacetime for warrant officers and midshipmen who have graduated from such institutions will be 10 years.

Under the currently effective provisions of Article 26, clause “v,” and Article 36.1.3 of the aforementioned laws, the list of persons eligible for enlistment into active military service as warrant officers and midshipmen includes military servicemen (excluding officers) up to the age of 40.

Under the amendment, the phrase “military servicemen up to the age of 40” has been clarified and replaced with the wording “reserve warrant officers and midshipmen who have not reached the maximum age limit for military service, reserve soldiers, sailors, and sergeants up to the age of 40.”

In addition, the tables reflected in the currently effective Articles 172 and 44.1 of the said laws set the maximum reserve age limits for soldiers, sailors, sergeants, warrant officers, and midshipmen in the same row. Amendments have been made to these tables to establish separate rows for warrant officers and midshipmen, setting the reserve age limits as follows: 35 years for first-category reserve warrant officers and midshipmen, 45 years for second-category reserve warrant officers and midshipmen, and 55 years for third-category reserve warrant officers and midshipmen.

Articles 175 and 45.2 of the aforementioned laws provide for the periods during which reserve military servicemen may be called up for military training assemblies.

Under the amendment, first-category reservists may be called up for military training assemblies up to ten times, each time for a period of up to one month. In addition, military servicemen transferred to the reserve of the relevant executive authority may be called up for military training assemblies up to five times, each time for a period of up to two months.
