In line with the relevant instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, efforts to improve pedestrian and public transport infrastructure in the capital continue, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) said, APA-Economics reports.

Within the framework of the State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030, implementation of a large-scale project aimed at ensuring the convenience of pedestrians, public transport users and micromobility users on Tabriz Street is being launched.

According to the analyses conducted, a number of deficiencies hindering pedestrian movement have been identified on Tabriz Street. In many sections of the street, narrow sidewalks and the absence of signalized pedestrian crossings make pedestrian movement difficult.

From the perspective of traffic management, conflicts between turning and transit traffic flows reduce the street’s capacity and negatively affect the movement of vehicles and pedestrians. There is also no infrastructure for the movement of micromobility vehicles on the street.

Passengers using public transport also face a number of difficulties. Narrow sidewalks in areas where bus stops are located, poor infrastructure and the non-optimal location of some stops further complicate the situation.

In order to eliminate the existing shortcomings, the Transport Coordination Council has adopted a decision on improving pedestrian and public transport infrastructure on Tabriz Street.

Within the framework of the project, a small bus interchange hub will be established around the Nariman Narimanov metro station, taking into account pedestrian and transport flows. New pedestrian crossings will be organized and a continuous pedestrian environment will be created.

Measures will also be taken to improve pedestrian movement conditions by expanding sidewalks and ensuring more efficient management of pedestrian flows in the boulevard-style sidewalk section of the street.

Near the Baku Congress Center, the attractiveness of the area will be enhanced through the creation of safe pedestrian crossings, a tree buffer zone and parking spaces.

As a result of the planned works, pedestrian safety and comfort on Tabriz Street will be improved, access to public transport will be enhanced, and the street space will be developed in a more functional manner in line with the principles of modern urban mobility.
