Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Worldwide passenger transportation via air transport increased by 5.3% within last year, while cargo transportation fell by 1.5%.
APA-Economics reports citing data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) that, the load factor for the year was 79.1%. Demand for international transport increased by 6%, and internal - 4%. And in fact, in both cases the main drivers of growth were the emerging markets.
Besides, despite high price of fuel on world market, the airlines gained $6.7 bn profit during the reporting year.
The highest growth rates were observed in the emerging markets - the Middle East (15.4%), Latin America (8.4%) and Africa (7.5%). Domestic passenger traffic increased by 4% and the highest growth was shown by China (9.5%) and Brazil (8.6%).
According to IATA’s forecasts, in 2013 passenger traffic will grow by 4.5%, and cargo - by 1.4%. As a result, profitability will increase from $ 6.7 billion (net profit ratio of 1.0%) to 8.4 billion dollars (rate of return - 1.3%) in 2013.
