Within the framework of the Great Return program, the city of Zangilan has already received its first residents, and the resettlement process continues in stages, APA’s Karabakh bureau reports.
Families arriving with the next relocation convoys are returning to their native lands and starting a new life.
Ilhamiyya Rza, head of the public relations department of the Restoration, Construction and Management Service in the Jabrayil, Gubadli and Zangilan districts, said that the groundbreaking ceremony of the first residential complex consisting of 104 apartments built in the city of Zangilan was held in 2022 with the participation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva.
According to her, the head of state also reviewed the construction work carried out in the complex in 2024 and 2025.
Ilhamiyya Rza noted that the total area of the complex exceeds 2 hectares, and 12 buildings have been constructed there. Four of them are 3-storey buildings, while eight are 2-storey townhouse-type houses. In total, 104 apartments have been built, of which 84 are intended for residents and 20 for service use.
She stated that children’s and sports playgrounds, a bicycle lane, as well as underground and above-ground parking areas have been created in the residential complex.
Resident of Zangilan city, Yagub Yagubov, said that he was 13 years old when the district was occupied in 1993 and had lived as an internally displaced person since that day: “Returning to my native Zangilan after 33 years is a feeling beyond words. The city has completely changed and turned into a modern and beautiful place to live. I wish mercy upon our martyrs and recovery to our veterans who made us experience this joy.”
Resident of Zangilan city, Hafiza Bayramova, noted that although they had lived as internally displaced persons for many years, they had always lived with the hope of return: “Now the city of Zangilan has been rebuilt in a modern way, and living here is a great source of pride.”
