Aztelekom-AzEuroTel trial delayed till late April
# 06 April 2009 12:08 (UTC +04:00)
Baku. Aynur Veliyeva – APA-Economics. A court will pass a decision on Azeri-British Joint Venture AzEuroTel’s appeal against Aztelecom’s lawsuit limiting its intercommunication channels in late April.
Aztelecom is a unit under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies.
Despite two court meetings on the lawsuit, Judge Tahire Alasgarova has not passed a final decision.
An unofficial source told APA-Economics that the delay is caused by the fact that court officials have low knowledge of the modern IT technology – the content of the case.
In this regard, AzEuroTel has offered the involvement of foreign experts from Ericsson, Alkatel and other IT firms, a proposal which was opposed by Aztelecom.
Aztelecom filed a lawsuit against AzEuroTel with the Baku Economic Court #1 for the payment of outstanding debt for interconnection service used in 2007-2009.
From February 23, Aztelecom limited the channels providing access to the subscribers of AzEuroTel-operated telephones exchanges with 492/497/437 initials for connection with regions and mobile operators.
AzEuroTel made a counter-claim, demanding AZN 4 million in damages.
AzEuroTel said AzTelecom regularly violates the terms of the agreement and fails to ensure the quality and uninterrupted manner of the service, causing damages to AzEuroTel.
Under a court decision, the access channels were restored but the arrest on AzEuroTel’s bank accounts will remain under arrest until the debt is paid.
