Toyota unveils new tiny four-passenger iQ

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Toyota Motor Corp. plans to launch a tiny, four-passenger car in Europe in 2009 and aims to eventually sell about 80,000 a year, the company announced on Wednesday.
The car, called the iQ, measures less than three meters long and is expected to compete with the tiny Smart car made by Daimler AG’s Mercedes division.
Unlike the two-seat Smart, however, the iQ has a back seat and can carry up to four passengers.
The iQ is only 2.985 meters long. Toyota said it was able to squeeze four seats in such a small car by creating a flat gas tanks that sits under the seats, using new materials to make thing seat cushions and redesigning the dashboard to leave extra room for the font passenger.
The car will be available with a one-liter gasoline engine or a 1.4-liter diesel engine. Pricing has not been set yet.
