Baku hosts North-South Corridor trilateral meeting

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-Economics. The meeting of senior officers of railway administrations of Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia are meeting in Baku on the North-South Project, said Azerbaijan State Railways Company.
The meeting is joined by Mehdi Mehdiyev, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan State Railways Company, Alexandr Bobreshov, Vice-President of Russian Railways and Mahmoud Reza Keimanesh, Deputy Managing Director of Iran’s State Railways.
The experts will review the ways to accelerate executive works of construction of North-South international corridor as well as the rail link between the three states.
They will also discuss the construction of 8.5 km railway in Azeri soil that will connect the country with Iran.
Iranian delegation will report about the Gazvin-Rasht-Astara rail line at the tripartite meeting.
Heads of railways of Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan signed a trilateral memorandum on mutual understanding on March 29 on the conditions for building the Gazvin-Rasht-Astara rail line, which is part of the International North-South Transport Corridor.
Russia, Iran and India launched negotiations on establishment of the North-South Corridor in September, 2000 and final agreement was reached on May 11, 2002. Azerbaijan joined the project in 2005.
