Azerbaijan sees 30% growth in printer market - ANALYTICAL
An estimated by the sellers (computer hardware stores), the printer market is expected to see 30-35% growth in 2008, up 10-15% on last year.
The annual printers market for Azerbaijan’s is estimated at about 70 000 pieces.
Major printer models are offered by HP, Canon, Epson, Xerox, Lexmark, Samsung, Kyosera, OKI, Ricoh and others.
The market is virtually cornered in by some brands such as HP, Canon and Epson. HP is seen as the market leader for inkjet and laser printers.
Competition in the printers market is quite strong. Manufacturers are active in marketing campaigns, the most popular among which is the offer of a printer as a gift when buying a desktop or laptop PC.
Thanks to this kind of incentive campains, the market is increasing from year to year, at a fairly significant rate.
Another important aspect of influencing the printers market growth, color printer is getting cheaper and prices for printers are liberalized. Today, entry-level printers cost less than 50 manats and are available to many consumers.
Almost all active market participants presented new models to consumers. Those who have not yet had time to do so, plan to submit them as soon as possible. By year’s end, HP and Canon plan to introduce new items.
Manufacturers constantly hold training sessions and training seminars for their clients. Thus, one of the main objectives of vendors is to tell users about the capabilities of its decisions, that is the main task of representation in the republic.
Leading suppliers show sales growth of more than 50%, mainly due to multifunctional devices and laser printers. A significant increase in the demand was observed in the segment of inexpensive entry-level models. There is a growing demand for devices for home photo (photo-printers Ñ…15 format 10 cm). A number of suppliers also actively promote low-cost, compact device. The cost of photo-capable entry-level printers is 100 manats.
As the sellers say, printers market is divided into two segments: the business sector (network printers, copiers, etc.) and devices for home users and small enterprises (inkjet printers, photo printers and multifunctional devices).
Sales outlets offer matrix printers, laser black and white and color printers in A4 format, large-format A3 laser printers, inkjet printers and sublimation printer printers, inkjet printers that are targeted to work at the office.
There is rapidly growing interest in devices which combine the functions of a scanner, printer and copier, and sometimes fax machine.
With regard to photo-printers, today the vast majority of consumers prefer to print digital photos in the photo market which greatly developed in Azerbaijan.
Speaking on the trends that characterize the development of the market printers in recent times, it is worth noting that the radical changes that could change the picture did not happen.
Among the fastest growing areas is colour laser printers segment which demonstrates the double annual growth. Virtually, all market players point out that segment of colour laser printers is growing by 10-15% annually, and mostly through laser devices in the price ranging to 700 manats.
In this segment, sellers say, users do not impose stringent requirements for functionality and quality color printing. Producers, in turn, create models that simply provide the opportunity to print in color. This segment is likely to develop ways to reduce costs, as well as through speed and print quality.
Because color laser printers are very expensive, the massive demand for them, according to the sellers, can be expected when the price level is 120-150 manats.
However, the minimum price of an entry level colour laser printer is 210 manats.
Falling prices of black and white laser devices to below 150 manats opened a new niche, and consumers began to get laser technology that could not but affect the inkjet printers market - the sales declined slightly.
Experts predict that a similar situation could happen in the colour laser printers segment. Therefore, IT companies focus on market segments such as tourism, design, banking, etc. For these activities color printers is one of the factors determining the success of their business, playing a key role in promoting services and products, as well as contributing to the effective positioning in the market.
Regarding the development of the jet devices market, here it is the same way as in the laser segment, n radical changes happened recently.
From a technological point of view, the print technology has reached a certain limit, and is believed that further improvement is possible but not necessary, because the human eye does not fix such small nuances of the press.
Today, many note the steady increase in the printing speed with laser printing, as well as the significant improvement in print quality from the jet. Gradually, devices at the speed of less than 16 pages / min leave the market.
Printers practically reached the limit of technological sophistication, having mastered the functions of scanners, copiers and faxes, and the emergence of multifunctional devices that further heightened competition. The proportion of devices combining functions of printer, scanner and copier increases every year, as traditional printers go away from the market. This trend has become evident especially with the growth of purchase by home users.
This year, thanks to the active work of the channels of distribution, the emergence of new products, the prices of inkjet and laser printers and multifunctional devices continue to fall below 100 and 200 manats. Today, the cost of entry level multifunctional device jet is 60 manats (printer, scanner, copier), with fax - 140 manats, and the cost of entry-level laser multifunctional device (printer, scanner, copier) is 190 manats, with fax it costs 450 manats.
Color devices are becoming increasingly popular in the business environment, and private users prefer multifunctional devices as opposed to ordinary inkjet printer. Five years ago, most customers preferred simplest personal printers
In recent years, the prices of printers have dropped, the market has stabilized, and manufacturers make a bet primarily on consumables for printers, without which all the working equipment is worth nothing. On a continuing need for consumables, today each manufacturer is building its business.
Unfortunately, the market is not pure, and there are fake poor quality printers under the name of the originals. They are proposed by 50% cheaper. Packages marked as the original can be identified only by experts. Therefore, today many consumers (not just for homework), have resorted to refilling cartridges.
