Azerbaijan submits proposals to CAREC

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-Economics. Faig Alekberov, financial officer of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport attended the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program held in Ulaanbaatar.

The event was attended by representatives from the ADB, IMF and from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, the People’s Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The meeting focused on building transport and energy infrastructure, simplifying border and trade arrangements, and fostering closer cooperation among countries in the region.

Faig Alekberov put forward proposals suggesting the extension of the second international transport corridor to Turkey and Europe via Georgia, and inclusion of the North-South Transport Corridor to the Program.

The participants showed interest in proposals and decided to have discussion at next meetings.

The CAREC Program was initiated in 1997 with the goal of development through cooperation leading to accelerated economic growth and poverty reduction. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has served as CAREC Secretariat since 2000.
