Baku hosts a roundtable on urban development policy

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-ECONOMICS. A roundtable has today brought together main stakeholders to discuss the town planning policy in Baku as part of Azerbaijan International Construction Exhibition.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, and senior officers from construction companies.

Jahangir Gojayev, administration chief of the State Committee, briefed the participants about the activities towards the development of the Greater Baku Regional Development Plan.

According to him there is a need to prepare a master plan for Baku metropolitan area which include Khirdalan, Sumgait and Absheron district.

"Construction of buildings and residential complexes are haphazard. For example, residential complexes are beilt but there are no schools around there. Therefore, children go to school in Baku from Khirdalan, a situation that causes new problems in the transport sector,â€ he added.

He added that the transfer of universities from the center of the capital is also under dicussion.

Kamil Muradov, construction valuation officer of the ministry of emergency situations, said that work is under way to develop new regulations concerning the management of construction works.
