Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communications and Information Technologies hosts Ericsson CEO designate - <font color=red>PHOTOS </font>

Baku. Aynur Veliyeva - APA-ECONOMICS. Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov has today met with Ericsson CEO designate Hans Vestberg, who will take up office as president and CEO of the company as of 1 January 2010.

The parties held discussion on the establishment of a working group to set up a government network so-called HomeNet in Azerbaijan.

The guest noted that they are ready to put forward a number of innovative proposals to Azerbaijan, including the sharing of experience in the field of e-health and e-education.

He expressed hope that the issue of establishing a working group for HomeNet network will be solved after his meeting with the President of Azerbaijan.

The meeting also discussed the issue of development of the national broadband network capable of supporting high speed data transfer between different locations and providing high quality broadband services to users.

In addition, during the meeting they discussed issues of effective introduction of modern technologies for strategically important projects such as the creation of intra-network and pipeline monitoring and control system.

According to Vestberg, Ericsson estimates that up to 2014 the number of mobile users worldwide will grow from 4 billion to 7 billion, and broadband Internet users will rise from 400 000 to 3 million.

Minister Abbasov noted that over the past 5 years the average annual growth rate of the ICT market in Azerbaijan reached 35%, three times the growth rate around the world.

According to him, there are a number of Government Programs to support the development of the ICT sector in Azerbaijan.
