The Israeli embassy in Azerbaijan said the parties agreed not to terminate flights but to further expand cooperation.

According to the agreement, AzAL will continue operating flights, and Israel’s Arkia airline will consider launching a new direct flight between Baku and Tel Aviv.

The meeting was attended by Jahangir Asgarov, director general of AzAL.

On July 31, media reports said Baku-Tel-Aviv flight would be discontinued from August 20 because Israel was concerned about the strictness of security in Azerbaijan Airlines (AzAL).

According to the report, Israel wants to assume the security of flights from and to Israel to and from Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport, a move which is not accepted by Azerbaijan.

The problem was that Arkia wanted to provide security for this flight at Baku International Airport.

“Azerbaijan doesn’t agree to this. AzAL’s security service has been highly rated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). There is no problem in the security we provide,” AzAL added.

Then, the airlines said they had agreed to postpone the termination of flights until September
20.
