Baku hosts roundtable on ICT sector between Azerbaijan and Latvia

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Roundtable on information and communication technologies has been held in Baku within the framework of Latvian President Valdis Zatlers’ official visit to Azerbaijan. The event was organized by Azerbaijani Export & Investment Promotion Foundation (AzPROMO) and Latvian embassy in Azerbaijan with support of Economic Development Ministry.

APA-Economics reports that Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Elmir Valizadeh gave information about the development of ICT sector of the country and noted that ICT growth was 32% in the recent five years, Azerbaijan-based private companies played the main role in this growth. The private companies’ share in ICT is 80%.
“Despite the global financial crisis, ICT sector is developing in Azerbaijan,” he said.

Deputy Minister noted that Azerbaijan and Latvia have already signed three agreements on ICT and the sides will do their best to improve the current relations.

Representatives of Azerbaijan-based Azerfon, Bakcell, Caspel, AZEL, Sinam and Latvia’s Triatel, Tilda, Nexum companies and State Radio Station and Television Center participated in the roundtable.

Roundtables on tourism, finance and education between Azerbaijan and Latvia have been held today. Azerbaijan-Latvia business forum will be held on August 11.
