Maharram safarli, Press Secretary of AzAL Airline, said Levski team members arrived at the airport late and their check-in lasted until 11.30 pm although Flight LZB-8214 is scheduled to take off at 11.00 pm on July 28.

“After a representative of SW Business Aviation LLC arrived there, it turned out that Levski has a difficulty to pay for the flight. Therefore, the flight was delayed until the midnight. Levski was offered a credit to make payment for penalty, ground and technical fees, but it refused. Boarding for that flight started at 02.48 am after the payment was credited to the account of SW Business Aviation LLC. After that, Boeing-737 departed from Baku with 68 passengers on board to Sofia at 02:48 am,” he added.

According to him, crewmembers of Boeing-737 aircraft owner Bulgaria AIR had to inform Levski of the penalty of Azerbaijan Aviation Authority and restriction of night-time flights at Baku International Airport from midnight to 07.00 am.

“This decision was published on AIP and NOTAM systems 42 days before it came effective, and all airlines, including Bulgaria AIR was informed about this measure. Levski caused the delay of flight by arriving late. As it seems, this incident was caused by the team’s irresponsibleness,” he noted.

He slammed reports in Russian and Bulgarian media as groundless, saying AzAL bears no responsibility for the incident.
