Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communications and Information Technologies holds meetings in New York

New York. Zaur Hasanov-APA. Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov led a delegation to New York from June 15-19.

The purpose of the visit was to continue efforts on the Transnational Eurasian High-Speed Information Superhighway Initiative set forth in a ministerial meeting in Baku on November 11, 2008 and supported in the Baku Declaration, and to exchange views with the UN agencies and member states, said Azerbaijan’s Permanent Mission to the UN.

The Azeri delegation held bilateral meetings with the UNDP senior officials, UN secretary general advisor on information technology, Korean permanent representative who will chair UN General Assembly Second Committee on Economic Affairs during the 64th session, chairman of the Second Committee, as well as permanent representatives of Afghanistan, Estonia, Pakistan, Jordan, Sudan, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Slovenia, Russia, Cuba, Jamaica, China, Czech Republic, Ukraine to the UN.

In addition, the delegation held a briefing at the UN headquarters for all the UN member states on the proposed Transnational Eurasian High-Speed Information Superhighway Initiative.

Azerbaijan’s Minister Ali Abbasov, Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliev, and Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Agshin Mehdiyev informed the participants of the initiative and fielded questions.
