Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. More and more countries aspire to join the East-West High-Speed Information Highway Project initiated by Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies said the project is expected to cover more than 20 countries in the region.

The project envisions digitally connecting Western Europe to the Pacific through an information superhighway.

In late 2008, Azerbaijan hosted a ministerial conference entitled “Transnational Eurasian High-Speed Information Superhighway” on the sidelines of the 14th Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition (BakuTel-2008) in Baku and the conference concluded with a declaration.

The Transnational Eurasian High-Speed Information Superhighway Project was worked out by Booz & Co global consulting firm.

The participating countries agreed to set up a workgroup for preparing proposals on the project.
