Azerbaijan marks World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

Baku. Aynur Veliyeva-APA-Economics. Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies has today hosted a meeting on the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day- 17 May.

This year’s theme is Protecting Children in Cyberspace.

The event was addressed by Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Iltimas Mammadov, Ministry’s Officer for Information Society Development Rufat Gulmammadov ANAS Information Technolgies Institute Director Rasim Aliguliyev and ANAS Cybernetics Institute Director Telman Aliyev.

ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun Touré’s address and a documentary film on the development of ICT were showed at the meeting.

The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day as been celebrated annually on 17 May since 1969, marking the founding of ITU and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865. It was instituted by the Plenipotentiary Conference in Malaga-Torremolinos in 1973.
