Azerbaijan to launch its first satellite in 2011

Baku. Aynur Veliyeva - APA-Economics. Azerbaijan will launch its first satellite into geostationary orbit in 2011, said the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies.

According to the ministry, at the subsequent stages preparation will be carried out for the launch of the second satellite, human resources training in the leading scientific centers of Europe and the United States, building a ground-based infrastructure to receive information from space, and manage the system.

Initially, the space industry equipment and devices for the operation of satellites will be bought from abroad. Subsequently, the Ministry will use the resources of the Ministry of Defense Industry and the National Aerospace Agency.

For prospective use, the ministry also considers it appropriate to operate satellite for remote surveying for the monitoring of the Earth’s surface. Launching satellites into orbit will allow Azerbaijan to integrate into the global space infrastructure.
