Azerbaijan and Intersputnik to sign cooperation agreement

Baku. Aynur Veliyeva - APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies and Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications will sign an agreement of cooperation.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov said Intersputnik made great strides last year despite the global economic crisis and the organization has extensive experience and capabilities in space industry.

As part of Azerbaijan’s space program, two artificial satellites will be purchased and orbited within next two years.

Intersputnik will assist Azerbaijan in realizing the capacity of Azersat1 and AzerSpace satellites in the future.

According to the minister, Azerbaijan will sign an agreement with Intersputnik on marketing issues after inking contracts with satellite makers.

Intersputnik’s director Vadim Belov said the company stands ready to assist Azerbaijan in this regard.

“After Azerbaijan puts its satellites into orbit, we will share out experience to help Azerbaijan realize the capacities of these satellites not only in Azerbaijan but in other countries,” he added.


Intersputnik is an international satellite communications services organization founded on November 15, 1971. Intersputnik nowadays is a commercially aligned organization. It operates 12 satellites in orbit and 41 transponders.

The organization has 25 member states among them the Federal Republic of Germany as the legal successor of the GDR.
